Offline operation / All platforms

Does the whole application work offline?

Local model inference is one part of the path. Test retrieval, documents, identity, tools and restart behavior as well.

CONTEXT

Why this comes up

A customer interview recorded by UT, with an accounting and advisory firm that is not named, describes keeping text and image processing local, including offline operation. This checklist turns that requirement into a test plan.

THE USEFUL LESSON

Evaluate the complete application path under the network restrictions your organization actually requires. A successful chat response alone does not establish offline operation of every component.

ON YOUR MACHINE

What to record and test

  1. 01

Draw the data path: client, authentication, document processing, embeddings, retrieval, model server, tools and logs.

  2. 02

Install the permitted artifacts, then disable external connectivity in the evaluation environment.

  3. 03

Test document ingestion, retrieval, application actions and access controls using non-confidential test data.

  4. 04

Restart the machine and services. Record any dependency that appears only during startup, licensing or updates.

  5. 05

Document the approved process for importing updates and recovering from a failed change.

An evaluation checklist, not a security certification or a completed offline test. Customer-specific network and application requirements still apply.
